In my area, there is a large number of active birders. They make good use of the internet sending out rare bird reports, and at this time of the year, announcing new arrivals for the summer.
I, myself, am not as involved in birding as other are. I record birds I see through my camera and if it's a rare bird, I will make an announcement of it. But I generally don't keep track of when birds arrive around me and the like.
However, the other day I noticed a bird I had not seen in my yard before. I snapped a photo of it and knowing what it was, sent it to a friend of mine who is active in the birding community. He has my permission to use any of my bird photos for educational purposes. Unknown to me, it was the first reported reappearance of the species this year.
First of the year Chipping Sparrow for here
However, I don't think the fellow like me taking his picture as he immediately turned and stared me down.

LOVE these photos. The contrast against the blue sky is awesome. He's quite the handsome fellow - I don't think he was staring you down - He was asking, "Is this my best side? How would you like me to pose now?" Or, maybe he was asking, "Are you going to report my being here? You'll be famous, I tell ya... FAMOUS!" hehe
Beautiful shots. The depth created by the color and branches is great.
Darryl and Ruth : )
Wonderful photos of the Chipping Sparrow!
Great photos.
and the tree budding super
Nice photos, I spent all day last Saturday trying to find the wren, thinking all along that is was really early for wrens in Iowa, finally figured out it was a chipping sparrow. They have a beautiful song.
This is a wonderful little bird and you took great photos of it. I had a bird at my feeder yesterday I had never seen before. I thought it might be a chipping sparrow but he had different markings on his chest than yours. I'm hoping one of my more knowledgeable birder friends will be able to identify it when I post it sometime down the road. Love the blue sky behind him here.
What a beauty!
He's cute little guy. Nice of him to come visit you first.
Just enjoying the sun! Joan
Like the shots very much. The colours blend really well. Love the way, you focused on the bird and make the surroundings blur.
I can just imagine what he was thinking!!! Great shots. ~ks
