Camera Critters #134

Shorebirds are something I still need to learn a lot about.  I can identify some, but most give me headache trying to figure out.

Several weeks ago, while at the sewage ponds north of town, I could see shorebirds off in the distance.  As I got close to them, they took to the air and began flying back and forth across the pond.

I wasn’t sure what they were, so I waited for them to pass by me so I could get a shot of the flock.  I was able to get a number of shots on several of the passes the birds made.

After I returned home and got the images on the computer, I was able to determine the birds were Long-billed Dowitchers.

I have never seen those birds here on the east coast or I was just not able to identify them. Lets go with the second one. Good photo getting flying bitds can be difficult.

Great shot! When your photo is enlarged the details are really clear.

Shorebirds are very difficult to ID. There are slight differences and most times they move to quickly to see the markings.

It's a beautiful shot! I do the same thing when we are out on the water and I get a shot of a bird I'm not sure of the name. Whe I get home I just google Florida sea birds and it might take a while, but I can find it! It amazing how many different birds there are! It's fun to fund new ones that you haven't seen before.

How cool to catch them in flight like that. It is very difficult to capture and you've done an excellent job.
